PHARG is dedicated to promoting the educational, scientific, and operating aspects of the amateur radio service in Downeast Maine. The group was formed in memory of Bob Begley W1KMG, who resided in Hancock, Maine, and was an elmer to many new hams in the region. PHARG now holds the W1KMG call and periodically conducts operating events, and routinely conducts Volunteer Examinations to bring new people into the ham radio community.
The next ham radio test session locally in Downeast Maine will be Monday, Mar 22 at 4:00pm at the Henry D. Moore Library in Steuben. Applicants MUST pre-register by sending an email to email@example.com. Due to Covid-19 concerns everyone at the test center must wear face masks. There are only 5 seats available. Applicants must obtain a free FRN (FCC Registration Number) available at fcc.gov, and bring that to the session. Fee is $15 and a legal photo ID must be produced.
There are groups who give on-line testing. Make sure you have decent broadband Internet, and know how to operate your own computer, and smartphones, especially when it comes to the webcams. Check out hamradioprep.com
